"lover girl is an intuitive work created over many months and completed in the autumn of 2024. The piece unfolded gradually with time and has many (literal) layers of paint. A number of figurative elements are incorporated into the work, including a flower shedding its petals, a sun, an anatomical heart and a series of fish chasing one another. The latter is intended to represent evolution, the circle of life, and the messy process of growing into one's self as we age - shedding old versions of the self in order to allow new ones to be uncovered. All of these figurative elements were carefully preserved from an earlier iteration of the work, even though the context was altered. In several places, the painting has been scratched into, exposing earlier surfaces."

'lover girl was begun after a break up. Love and our very human longing for it is quite literally at its centre - as represented by the golden heart in the middle of the painting. The title pays homage to the artist's intense yearning for romantic love and desire to find her 'other half' as a child, teenager and young adult. The piece speaks to learning to see and ignite the electrifying spark of love within and for oneself, as we grow up and understand how to hold ourselves with greater care and acceptance."
