"This piece was one of my first successful attempts at incorporating writing into my artworks. It reads: 'THINGS DO NOT FEEL AS THOUGH THEY ARE GOING TO PLAN'. Both the writing and the shape were the result of being in intuitive flow during a session in my studio. I painted over the text to change the colour and added a glitter border to the suspended blob at a later date."
"The message of this piece is actually meant to be a positive one, of hope and resilience. It plays with the idea that just when everything seems to have fallen apart, is actually when it is all going to plan and lining up. It's just not possible to see it yet, but the turning point has happened - and is actually that dark, low point. ('It's always darkest before the dawn.')"
"Since finding my signature ('TILLY'), I've been experimenting with different materials. Typically I like to use a contrasting material that's not otherwise in the work. Black marker is a favourite, however, I didn't feel like how it looked and crossed it out. This series has been in part about embracing mistakes and imperfections in my work and letting them be visible to the world, so I decided not to cover this and instead make it more prominent - highlighting it with the addition of glitter glue. I am beginning to see my signatures as a necessary part of the artwork."
"The question mark in the title is pronounced. So you say it, 'Going to plan, question mark?'"
